01 · General
About the platform.
What JBYSY actually is, who built it, and what it's for.
No — and we're emphatic about that. JBYSY is a decision-support tool for couples already in a serious courtship or engagement, and for individuals discerning marriage. There is no matching, no swiping, no profile discovery. More about what we are →
The platform is faith-informed but not denominational. The question bank is rooted in Christian values; the wording does not assume Pentecostal, Catholic, or Anglican framing. Where a question would land differently across traditions, we leave the practice question open and the value question structured.
A Lagos-based team — pastoral counsellors, a psychologist, and a software engineer. The platform is the structured version of counselling work first done offline and refined for the Nigerian context. Meet the team →
Lagos, Nigeria. The platform is calibrated for the Nigerian and African contexts. Many of our users are in the diaspora, and the questions explicitly address long-distance courtships.
02 · Taking the assessment
Taking the assessment.
How the assessment works, how long it takes, and what happens when you submit.
Average completion time is around 45 minutes. The platform saves your progress automatically — most people take it across two or three sessions over a few days, which we actually recommend.
Each Individual and Couple Assessment fee covers one assessment and is valid for 90 days from the payment date. The Counsellor Dashboard subscription is annual and renews on Your affirmative confirmation. See Terms §8 for the full plan and validity details.
Some questions are N/A-eligible — you can mark them as "does not apply." Those items are removed from the scoring total for that module rather than being scored as zero.
Honestly, the report becomes useless. The instrument has no way to detect dishonesty — but it also has no incentive to deceive you. The report is for you, not for grading. We strongly encourage answering honestly even where it's uncomfortable.
03 · For couples
Doing it together.
Pairing, the alignment report, and what to do with divergent scores.
One partner pays for the couple plan and receives two linked access codes — one for each partner. Each of you takes the assessment independently, and you do not see your partner's raw answers. Once both assessments are complete, we generate the combined alignment report and unlock it for both of you.
A wide divergence is not a verdict — it's the start of a conversation. The couple alignment report highlights the specific modules where you diverge with module-specific prompts. Many couples bring that report to a counsellor for a structured session. Find a counsellor →
No. Each partner sees only their own individual report. The couple alignment view is built from module-level percentages — never from raw responses — so individual answers stay between you and the platform.
Only if the second partner's code has not yet been used. If a couple code has not been used, it may be shared with a different partner. Once a partner enters the code, that pair is locked to that couple — even if the assessment is not completed — and a new couple-plan purchase is required for a different partner.
04 · For counsellors
For pastoral counsellors.
How verification works, what your subscription includes, and how to use the dashboard with your clients.
Verification is completed only after the counsellor submits an application, completes the orientation brief and certification programme, passes the knowledge check, and signs the Code of Conduct and Data Sharing Agreement. Dashboard access is activated only after those steps are complete. See the full process →
₦100,000 (or $100) per annum for the Counsellor Dashboard — verified directory profile, unlimited client links (revocable), per-client report & alignment access, private notes, caseload analytics, and the safeguarding queue inbox. You set Your own session rate; JBYSY does not take a cut of session fees. The subscription does not auto-renew without Your affirmative confirmation. More on pricing →
Clients can revoke access to their report at any time, and we will notify you. Revocation is logged to the audit trail. The client can re-link later if they choose. We support both sides of this — counsellors should never feel that revocation is a verdict on their work.
Counsellors can receive booking requests through JBYSY. Payment may either be handled directly between counsellor and client, or through a JBYSY-managed payment option where available.
05 · Payments & refunds
Money, simply explained.
How we charge, how Paystack works, and our refund policy.
All Paystack methods — Nigerian cards, USSD, bank transfer, and Apple Pay where supported. International cards are accepted; foreign exchange is at Paystack's prevailing rate. We do not store your card details — Paystack does.
All fees are non-refundable once a Service has been accessed or a Report has been generated. Dissatisfaction with the content, findings, or CRI score of a Report does not constitute grounds for a refund. The sole exception is a Verified System Failure — a technical failure attributable solely to the platform that prevented You from completing the Assessment, reported within 14 days, unresolved within 72 hours, and confirmed by independent review. Counsellor Dashboard subscriptions are annual and non-refundable on activation. See the full policy →
No. We do not currently offer financial assistance or blanket discounts.
06 · Data & privacy
How your data is handled.
JBYSY is registered with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. Concrete answers below.
Your identity (name, email, phone, city), your assessment responses (1–4 or N/A), and your derived scores. We do not store credit-card details (Paystack handles that). We do not collect any tracking beyond what's necessary to deliver the service.
You, by default. Any counsellor you explicitly grant access to. Your paired partner can see the couple alignment view (built from module-level percentages, not raw responses) once you've both completed. No one else. Read our privacy policy →
Yes. Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 you can request full deletion. Submit the request from your account settings — we process within 30 days. Some safeguarding records may be retained for the legally required minimum period; we explain what at the point of request.
Transport is TLS 1.3 everywhere. Sensitive response fields are column-level encrypted. Database access is row-level — a user can only see their own data, enforced at the database layer rather than the application layer. Secrets are managed in a vault, not in environment files.
07 · Safeguarding
When the report changes.
A specific set of responses triggers a different report pathway — and a different conversation. Here's how that works.
A small set of questions are designated safeguarding triggers — typically items about physical or emotional harm, coercion, or isolation. If a response on one of these fires a rule, the report is rendered through a different pathway: support resources, helplines, and professional referrals replace ordinary module commentary.
The report is delivered immediately with the safeguarding pathway content. A linked counsellor (if any) sees a flag in their dashboard. Our internal safeguarding team triages within 24 hours for high-severity flags, 72 hours for medium. Read the policy →
High severity: disclosures of physical harm, threats, or coercive control. Medium: persistent withdrawal/escalation patterns, financial-control language, or family-pressure indicators. Low: marginal signals tracked across any subsequent assessments. A relationship being in difficulty is not a safeguarding case — those are addressed in normal module commentary.
For the limited cases where Nigerian law mandates reporting (specific safeguarding categories involving minors or imminent serious harm), we will comply. We do not report ordinary relationship difficulty to anyone. The safeguarding policy spells out exactly when we would and would not.
Yes — your linked counsellor (if you have one) will see the flag in their dashboard with module and rule context, not raw answers. Counsellor visibility is on the assumption you want their support. You can revoke counsellor access at any time, including in the moment a flag is raised.
